My BALM has grown mold. Do you know if this is normal?

No, that's not what we see or what our users typically experience.

As some background, our products (and everyone else's, too) undergo something called Preservative Challenge Testing. That's where a third-party lab introduces bacteria and mold into the formulation over time and tests that the preservatives in the product keep the substances introduced from growing. BALM is rated to withstand that test for 30 months from the date it's made.  So older BALM may start to fail in this regard. (And if you're refilling old BALM on top of new BALM, who knows how old the BALM at the bottom of the jar is. PLEASE don't do this.)

HOWEVER, the one thing that NO product can pass this test with is if water is introduced to the formulation. Water breaks all cosmetic products' formulation systems. In fact, any product 100% without any water doesn't even need to be tested.

So, especially with BALM and other products in jars used for grooming with water, it can be difficult to avoid introducing water with your hands while using the product if that makes sense. We have some users who keep their BALM in the shower with the lid off, and, oh man!

If you are experiencing that, please don't hesitate to reach out to Customer Service at orders@cultandking.com. We always appreciate hearing about everything users are experiencing with our products, and we investigate fully. We want every user to have a great experience!
