We LOVE our Eagle Eye label-readying customers.
We are also pleased to use this answer to address in depth a question we are frequently asked about whether we have changed the TONIK formulation; users very much don't want us to change a thing about TONIK.
The TONIK formulation has not changed for many years in any significant way. The change of putting Water first on the ingredient label versus Organic Banana Juice was not a change in the formulation of the % of any ingredients in TONIK, but rather done in response to a cosmetic labelling rule clarification.
You see, all "juices" in cosmetic products are reconstituted (as are most drinkable juices). So instead of listing the juice first, we broke down the water and the banana juice/powder into two separate ingredients on the list. There was no difference in the amount of water or how it was made or anything else. We could technically have left it as it was, but in an abundance of transparency, we opted to switch to Water first.
As an aside, we have started adding some information to our labels and website that might be interesting to people who are avidly following the formulations: the specific internal formulation number for each product.
Here's a detailed history of all the TONIK formulations:
10-28-2019: Formulation # -087 Original
11-22-2022: Formulation # -087X Switched from Organic Aloe Juice as a base to Organic Banana Juice. Sometime while this formulation was in effect we started printing new packaging and labels with the Water-first INCI list format.
10-24-2023: Formulation # -087XX Switched from Organic Arnica Extract to Conventional Arnica Extract due to sourcing scarcity of the organic version. (Even a change like switching from the organic to conventional version of a single ingredient is considered a "new" formulation,)
11-14-23: Formulation# -191 - We were sourcing two ingredients in the formulation as a mixture from one vendor, and switched to buying them separately from two different vendors. The percentage of each ingredient in the formulation did not change -- only the sourcing did, and the fact that in the formulation kettle, instead of being added together, they were added separately. We decided that using a new formulation number would be clearer than adding another "X" to the old number, so while it may seen to be a "changed formulation," the INCI ingredient was not altered between this and the last formulation.
So basically, we have not changed the ingredient list or any % of ingredients included in the formulation of TONIK since 2022 (with the exception of switching from organic to conventional Arnica Extract).
Technically, any CULT+KING Authorized Retailer saying that the basis of TONIK is Banana Juice is not technically wrong. You can see that Musa Sapientum (Banana) is the sixth ingredient on the list; this is what is added to some of the water (first ingredient) to reconstitute the juice.
We know that TONIK does vary to a degree from batch to batch in ways that we can't control. Even if we get the same botanicals from the same sources, there seem to be differences from crop to crop that can affect the shade of the final TONIK or cause some botanical scents to stand out more in one batch than another.
